Clarendon Adult Education will offer classes at East Clarendon Middle School on WorkKeys, GED Preparation, and Basic Computer. Registration will be held on the first day of class: Tuesday, September 4 @ 5:00pm. Classes will meet on Tuesday & Thursday from 5 pm – 7:30 pm.

Calendars remembering Clarendon County’s Fallen Officers are for sale at Town Hall for $10.00 each. Funds raised from this project go towards helping the families of fallen officers. Each officer that has fallen in the line of duty is honored on the month/date of their End of Tour of duty.

The next meeting of Town Council will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Town Hall. The public is encouraged to attend.

Anyone that receives water from the Town of Turbeville can also sign up for trash collection. If you are interested in this service come by Town Hall and sign up. You do not have to live in the Town of Turbeville to receive this service.

Screen on the Green movie for August 11, 2012 is The Smurfs. All movies begin at sunset and if there is a rainout the movie will be shown on Sunday evening.

FEDS FEED FAMILIES!! The Manning USDA Service Center is accepting food donations June 1, 2012 to August 31, 2012 to meet its goal of collecting 500,000 pounds of food. All donations will be delivered to the United Ministries in Manning which serves all of Clarendon County and benefits people in our area. Suggested items such as canned goods, grains, soups, napkins, paper towels, etc may be left at Town Hall. A brochure may be obtained at Town Hall.

A SECOND CHANCE ANIMAL SHELTER, LOCATED AT 5079 Alex Harvin Hwy between Manning and Summerton, is now holding its annual membership drive. The cost of a yearly membership is $25.00 for an individual or a family. Membership applications are available at Town Hall. The shelter collects ink/toner cartridges and cell phones for its recycling program. These items may be left at Town Hall to be taken to the shelter.

UPDATE ON WATER SYSTEM EXPANSION: The installation of the water pipe is moving to William Gibbons Rd. Approximately 95% of the laying of the water line has been completed.

STATE TOURNAMENTS FOR DIXIE PONY TAILS & DIXIE DEBS was held at Smith Field on July 14th through July 19th 2012. A special thank you to all the volunteers who helped with various jobs during the tournaments. Thanks to Ike and his staff for all their hard work and a very successful tournament.

Watch for the opening of Becky’s Café owned and operated by Becky Yates Levine in the former Smokehouse Restaurant building. She plans to have a daily special, short orders, baked goods, desserts, cakes, and assorted salads. You may purchase desserts by the piece or you may order a dessert or cake to take home. She will have catering for all occasions.

The East Clarendon High School Class of 1992 Reunion is planned for Saturday, October 20, 2012. The event will be a dinner cruise in Charleston, SC. The deadline to register is August 24.
