THE TOWN OF TURBEVILLE NEEDS YOUR HELP! We are in need of several items that are listed in this newsletter. PLEASE help us make OUR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION a success by getting involved, we need everyone to participate in this activity. Please don’t wait, we need to get the items listed ASAP. Our celebration will begin in December with a Ribbon Cutting, Parade, Lighting of the Tree and a Tour of Homes. We have activities planned for each month up to August. Again I am asking everyone to help.

The committee for the ”100 Year Celebration” needs your help collecting pictures. The following are some pictures we would like to collect: (1) old pictures of the town, community, and families prior to 1914; (2) buildings/businesses in the town that are no longer there; (3) activities that have taken place in the community; (4) hurricane Hugo pictures; (5) snow storm of 1973; (6) veterans/ Servicemen of the community between 1914-present, preferably in uniform; (7) pictures of significant events associated with the school: (8) pictures of the old homes, (9) pictures associated with the farm/farming; and (10) pictures of churches and the children’s home. If you have any other pictures or newspaper clippings that you think may be of interest, we would appreciate them also. Please label all pictures with names, dates, and with as much information about them as you can. Also let us know if you need the back, or if it is a copy we can keep. If we need to return, we will get them back to you as soon as possible. Thanks for helping to make this Celebration a memorable event. Please call Town Hall and let us know if you have some pictures or anything that might be helpful.

The committee for the “100 Year Celebration” needs Story Tellers. We would like to Video tape community members telling their favorite stories of events that happened during the first 100 years of the town. Please call Faye Atkinson at Town Hall to let us know if you are willing to tell your story. You can reach Mrs. Atkinson at 843-659-2781.

The next meeting for the 100th Anniversary will be held at Town Hall on Tuesday October 22, 2013 at 7:00 PM. If you did not sign up for the committee you are still welcome to attend this meeting.

The next meeting of Town Council will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Town Hall. The public is encouraged to attend.

Pine Grove United Methodist Church Women have a new cookbook, “Puddin” Swamp Revisited. The cost is $20.00 and can be purchased at Town Hall.

Next Screen on the Green is scheduled for October 26, 2013: “Wreck It Ralph”

The Town of Turbeville request that only children age 12 and under, accompanied by an adult, participate in Halloween Trick or Treat on Thursday, October 31, 2013, between the hours of 6:00 PM and 8:PM. Home owners that do not wish to participate are asked not to turn on your front porch light. Motorist are urged to use extreme caution during these hours.

Daylight Savings Time ends on Saturday, November 2, 2013. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour.

Turbeville Christmas Parade is scheduled for December 7, 2013 at 4:00PM. Anyone interested in being in the parade call Ike Ard or come by Town Hall for application. The  theme for this years parade is the 100th Anniversary. The Town would like for those participating to choose a ten year period from 1914 till 2014, and use this as your theme.

Bake Sale November 2, 2013 at the Turbeville IGA starting at 8:30AM. The funds from this sale will go towards the building of an Orphanage in Kenya. This Bake Sale is being sponsored by Edward Phillips, son of Eddie and Jean Phillips and grandson of David and Melva Young

The 100th Anniversary Committee is planning a Bluegrass/Gospel Fair for June 14, 2014. If you have a group and are interested in participating please call Town Hall at 843-659-2781.
